The rope is very sturdy & strong it can withstand your cat's scratching or pulling on it, the puffy ball that's attached to the rope swings all around while cats play with it and the string attached to it never snapped out. The base is very sturdy and has an amazing plush feel which my cats love to lounge or take a nap after they play with the scratching post.
